There are so many challenges when it comes to breastfeeding; from a baby’s latch, to nipple pain, breast engorgement, risk of mastitis, and low milk supply. I always found it to be anxiety inducing when I didn’t see the milk flowing while I was pumping. There are several techniques to help increase your milk supply, and one of them is to adjust your diet. As promised, here is the second recipe of the series to help increase a mother’s breast milk supply. These are our Superfood Lactation Bites. Not only are they delicious, but they are made with superfoods, which make them nutritious. Benefits of Cacao: rich in antioxidants. Benefits of Moringa Oleifera: high in protein, vitamin A, potassium, calcium and vitamin C. It’s also high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, and it balances hormones naturally. Benefits of Flaxseed: high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acid, and antioxidants. You can share these yummy treats with your partner, but they’re so good that you will want them all for yourself! I assumed these moms were being overly dramatic and exaggerating. Well, they were right, breastfeeding doesn't happen without some effort for the most of us. Breastfeeding mama's need to increase their caloric intake by 500 calories a day and ensure they're staying hydrated. I've added healthy fat and protein to my diet and have been consuming at least 100 ounces of water a day. I have also found myself testing out all the galactagogues, aka a substance that promotes or increases the flow of a mother's milk --from bone broth to oatmeal to brewers yeast and the latest superfood trend, moringa. Here is the first of three simple snack recipes that I will be sharing. Two of the ingredients in these lactation bites are galactogogues, oats and brewers yeast. Enjoy one or two bites a day. You can enjoy these even if you're not a breastfeeding mama, just skip the brewers yeast. Ingredients:
