Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves burning the dried herb mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) to promote circulation and healing. While the herb comes in different forms, at Silver Leaf, I generally use stick moxa (moxa that is formed into a charcoal stick). Moxa is deeply nourishing and strengthening.
I practice indirect moxa therapy during which the moxa stick is lit and hovered over the skin to produce warmth. I do not touch the skin directly with the moxa.

Moxibustion can help with a variety of conditions and concerns by:
- improving the circulation of blood to address issues like Raynaud’s Disease
- warming the body to facilitate the healing of conditions associated with excess cold or “yang deficiency”; excess cold can cause symptoms like gas or bloating after eating raw vegetables or dairy products
- treating pain, fatigue, menstrual cramps and infertility, and digestive disorders
- helping to turn a breech baby during weeks 32–36 of pregnancy
- treating chronic pain
